* Purpose:
The purpose of Local Colour Art Group is to provide a meeting place
for artists to progress, share, and practice their personal ability
of fine arts.
* Club Availability:
Local Colour Art Group has access to the facility at 180 Poplar
Avenue (@ Brazier) on Monday and Tuesday evenings - 7:00 pm - 9:00
pm (from September through June) and on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 3:00
pm and Fridays from 10:00 - 3:00 pm. The club will be closed on
official holidays.
* Workshops
We have various demonstrations
and workshops throughout the year - occasionally on Saturdays as well,
which explore different techniques and mediums for painting. Please
see the "workshop listing" on this site for a list of dates
and topics. There is sometimes a fee for these workshops, to help
cover the cost of hiring guest artists. We're always looking for new
ideas for workshops / guest artists - bring your ideas to the Executive.
* Business
meetings
Business meetings are held occasionally throughout the year
to discuss use of finances, plan art shows and update members on availability
of workshops, etc. The Annual General Meeting is held in Spring of
each year. Please check the Club News
page for more details.
* Membership Fee
The annual membership fee for Local Colour Art Group is $45.00. This
includes the $30 group fee and the $15 Elmwood / East Kildonan Centre
facility use fee. Dues must be paid by September 30 of each year.
To keep costs down, members are strongly encouraged to volunteer for
various committees throughout the year, such as show set-up and take
down, key holders (to open the building), workshop organization and
more.

* Facility
The facility has tables in a large well lit room for painting and
a wood working shop. The group is currently building up a comprehensive
library of art books and instructional videos (large white cupboard),
inspiration files of photos, etc. (filing cabinet beside fridge).
The club has purchased a mat cutter for use by members. It is stored
on top of the white cupboard. Please carefully read the instruction
book before use. We may hold a mat cutting workshop occasionally.
* Tax Exemption / Store Discounts
Members of Local Colour Art Group are issued a membership card bearing
our logo and our Provincial Sales Tax (PST) Exemption number. This
number may be used to exempt you from paying PST on the purchase of
art supplies only, when you intend to offer the artwork for sale at
some point.
Local Colour has also
arranged to for various art supply stores in Winnipeg to offer significant
discounts on the purchase of art supplies. Please contact the Executive
for a current list.
* Social Activities
Local Colour holds an annual Christmas party in December, usually
at the club, and often annual Spring Wind-up party in late May or
early June. Please check the Club News

* How do we find out what activities the club has planned?

Shows
Local Colour participates in various art shows and displays throughout
the year. We have continuing venues in the hallway / main auditorium
of the Elmwood / EK Senior Centre (the club centre) and at the Henderson
Public Library. We also hold our own annual Show and Sale in May and
November of each year, at the centre. Click

*Administration
The activities and affairs of the Local Colour Art Group will be managed
by a 10-person Executive Board of Directors, elected annually. Members
elect each of the following officer positions, and these people make
up the Board.
