Judy has always been
involved in Winnipeg’s art community. A long time elementary
school music teacher, she was an active with many groups that worked
to promote music education and provide workshop experiences for music
teachers, sang in choirs and conducted an adult community choir. Since
retiring from teaching she has immersed herself in the visual arts,
studying with many of Winnipeg’s fine art teachers and working
to extend her painting skills. Because she finds creative people stimulating,
instructive and just great friends, she particularly enjoys being
part of Local Colour Art Group. She sits on the board, organizes workshops
along with Joan Duma, loves Monday evening sketch nights and is ready
to pitch in whenever she can be of help. She also belongs to the Selkirk
Community Arts Centre and the Manitoba Society of Artists. For the
last seven years she has worked with good friends Carol Harrison,
Garth Palanuk and Joan Duma to organize a spring art show and sale
in North Kildonan called ART ROCKS!
Judy paints in watercolours
and acrylics, paints on silk using the serti technique and is a quilter.
Her choice of subject matter is very eclectic, including landscapes,
portraits, florals and wildlife. The threads of continuity running
through most of her paintings are light, colour and joy. You can see
more of Judy’s work by visiting her website at: judysuttonartwork.com.
Many of these paintings are for sale.
